Wasaga Under Seige - July 24 to 26, 2009

Peter is seen here patching his traditional (and gorgeous) birch bark canoe. When asked how you know when it's time to patch the seams, the reply was something like: "well, if your mocassins are getting wet...". Small leaks in the birch bark of the canoe are patched with a mixture of spruce gum, bear fat, and ash. Oh yeah, and lots of spit!

This was the first year at "Wasaga Under Seige" that we were asked to try something new and bring our drumming to the Beach, outside of the Nancy Island site. Here we are, singing "Humble", in front of the WasagaDome Beachfront Complex. A humbling experience indeed, as the beach was conspiciously absent of people that day (besides us and a handful of Royal Newf's), as some pictures on our site will reveal:

A bit of trivia: WasagaDome Beachfront Complex, which opened in the summer of 2008 after many construction delays, was built on the site of the old pedestrian mall which was destroyed in a beachfront blaze in December 2007. There are still some ambitious plans to add yet more big development in this area.
