Sheguiandah First Nation Annual Jiingtamok - July 1-3, 2011

Sheguiandah, a First Nation community located on the northeastern part of Manitoulin Island, hosts an annual traditional Jiingtamok (Pow-Wow) on the July long weekend. In this the 22nd year of this event, Hunter, Sable, Vaughan (Le Bleu), Jim (Aliquot), and Robin of On-Gwe-Ho-Way participated. David was there for part of the weekend, dropping Vaughan off and picking him up again, while spending part of the weekend on Bear mountain.

As you can see from the photos below, they were blessed by blue skies and many traditional dancers in their fine, handcrafted regalia, and some in the group enjoyed participating in the inter-tribal dances. Gordon Wainibence and his wife Pearl always devote a huge amount of time and effort into making this a great Pow Wow, and Hunter and Sable are often to be found amongst the volunteers who support them. G'Chi-Miigwech!

Jim has the honour of carrying in a veterans' Eagle Staff during the Grand Entry, as honored members, the color guard of veterans, and the dancers parade in. No two eagle staffs are the same - or signify the same thing - but each is a highly honoured and sacred object to Native Americans.
