Historical Native Re-enactment Group

Wasaga Under Seige, Nancy Island, July 23 to 25, 2010

"A War of 1812 Experience" hosted by the Nancy Island Historic Site and the Town of Wasaga Beach - one of the year's best re-enactment events! Thursday night, a downpour was not enough to dampen spirits, even if it was enough to dampen lodgings and clothes, and prompt several folks to head to the local laundramat for some rapid drying out.

On Friday, a number of canoes and bateaus made the traditional trip down the Nottawasga, under partial cloud cover and the occassional sprinkle, but fun was had by all. Dave Brunelle brought along some cold beverages, and it was during that trip we found that, as a Gatorade was tossed to a canoe, that Gatorade doesn't float! At one point, a flag was almost lost as a bateau passed under a bridge, but it was saved at the last minute.

We had a good group of about 18 (at times) in attendance for the weekend, including Nikki Rightmyer, Sandra and Rene, Angela Goetz (a friend of the MacGregors), Shaymus the Storyteller, and even Kristy, who participated one day.

The organizers decided to try out a new battlefield for the Friday evening battle - still located in Beach Area two - but a little further down in another location, to add some variety to the battle tactics. (Thankfully, there was no Battle of the Parking Lot.) Gerry added a touch of authenticity by shaving his head and donning a scalp lock for the battles. And Charlie Hargraves was all too pleased to scalp Gerry at the end of the day (perhaps as a surrogate for David, who was meditating that weekend).
